Lazio Vs Lecce football liga match preview

A nice way to describe Lazio’s past month is woeful. Losing thrice away from home is not the same side we have known over the course of the season. And what makes his stat even more shocking is that the Biancocelesti have been getting results at home – almost a reversal of the start of the campaign. It was only three weeks ago ago that Lecce hadn’t had a win in five matches, but since then, the Salentini claimed a brilliant 4-2 win over Roma and a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Catania.

Probable starting XIs:

Lazio : Federico Marchetti, Lionel Scaloni, Modibo Diakite, Giuseppe Biava, Javier Garrido, Lorik Cana, Christian Daniel Ledesma, Alvaro Gonzalez, Anderson Hernanes, Antonio Candreva, Tommaso Rocchi

Lecce : Massimiliano Benassi, Massimo Oddo, Andrea Esposito, Nenad Tomovic, Juan Cuadrado, Gennaro Delvecchio, Guillermo Gonzalo Suarez Giacomazzi, Andrea Bertolacci, Davide Brivio, Luis Fernando Muriel, David Di Michele

Shrews so close after home win

Shrewsbury moved to the brink of automatic promotion after a Matt Richards goal sealed a 1-0 home win over Port Vale on Tuesday night.

The midfielder fired home a stunning drive 10 minutes into the second half at the New Meadow as Shrewsbury extended their unbeaten home run to 31 matches.

The hosts started positively and almost forced an own-goal from visiting defender John McCombe who was relieved to see his header from a probing Nicky Wroe ball drift just wide.

Vale were indebted to a stunning double save from goalkeeper Chris Martin for keeping Shrewsbury at bay on the half-hour mark as he brilliantly repelled stinging drives from Mark Wright and Richards in quick succession.

The visitors came into the game as the half unfolded and Sean Rigg struck the outside of a post from the edge of the box. But the Shropshire side always looked more likely to break the deadlock with top scorer James Collins unfortunate when he smashed a powerful shot from a tight angle against the bar with Martin beaten.

Richards netted the winner with a 25-yard strike that nestled into the bottom corner. Shrews keeper Chris Neal saved superbly from Marc Richards, while Graham Turner's men almost doubled their advantage when Wright struck a post after Martin saved well from Terry Gornell.

Abbott lauds promoted Addicks

Carlisle boss Greg Abbott offered his congratulations to Charlton after their 1-0 win at Brunton Park earned a return to the Championship.
_59635625_abbott.jpg (640×360)
The Cumbrians, whose own promotion hopes took a knock, were downed by a 76th-minute strike from Bradley Wright-Phillips.
Abbott said: "We only just came up short against a really powerful side. Fair play to Chris Powell and his staff. They are promoted and I wish them all the best for next year."
One of the key moments in the game came after half-time when, with the scores level, Carlisle midfield Liam Noble curled a shot past keeper Ben Hamer, only to see the ball rebound off the left hand upright.
Abbott added: "We needed everything to go our way. The shot was just curling the wrong way. Had it gone in it would have given us that extra energy to see the game out.
"There's nothing worse than a party you are not invited to. But we went 17 home games unbeaten which was a terrific achievement. We just have to keep going and keep believing."

Manchester City Vs West Bromwich Albion football liga match preview

Manchester City will head into their home fixture against West Bromwich Albion eight points behind rivals Manchester United at the top of the Premier League table. Roberto Mancini's side will realistically have to win all their remaining fixtures, starting with tomorrow's home encounter against the Baggies, if they are to have any chance of clinching the title.

They will have to do so without Mario Balotelli, who is suspended for the match at the Etihad Stadium. However, Mancini is expected to have David Silva available following a knee injury, while Edin Dzeko could also earn a recall to the City attack. Visiting West Brom brought an end to a four-match winless run on Saturday with a 3-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers. Their form away from home this season has been mixed, winning six times from 16 outings. West Brom last recorded a victory at City back in 2003.

Valon Behrami is happy at Fiorentina and would be willing to end speculation regarding his future by penning a new contract, according to his agent.
The former Lazio and West Ham midfielder was the subject of an official approach from Juventus during the January transfer window, but saw an offer knocked back. Behrami has become a key figure for the Viola since returning to Serie A and is considered to be indispensable. The 26-year-old is delighted to find himself in such a position and is keen to repay the faith shown in him by his current employers by committing his long-term future to the club.
"The future for Behrami? He wants to stay at Fiorentina," Behrami's representative Alessandro Beltrami told Sky Sport Italia"For Valon, this is a calm period, for him and his family. "At the end of the season we'll meet the (Fiorentina owners, Andrea and Diego) Della Valles and if they want Behrami to continue to be a leader, there won't be any problems. "We will happily sign a blank contract. We'll accept anything they propose."

Agger: We're just not good enough

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has admitted that the side's Premier League performances are just not good enough.

152838hp2.jpg (570×355)

Hopes of Champions League qualification are long gone after a poor run of results in the Premier League which has seen the expensively assembled squad fall way behind both Newcastle and Spurs in the table.
Agger says the form in the League is not good enough and following the draw with Aston Villa, he said: "We didn't score a winner.
"Maybe that's because we aren't good enough.
"We had a lot of good chances, especially at the end. But we couldn't score the winner and that's the fact.
"It is a bit of everything; we are not playing well, we are not working the right way but we are trying everything we can and hopefully it will turn soon.
"We have to try to win every single game - especially at Anfield - but that has not happened the last few weeks and we have to turn it around.
"We play Blackburn on Tuesday and we have to do a bit better if we want a result there."
