Smith hails Ledesma impact

Dean Smith praised the contribution of Emmanuel Ledesma before turning his attention to Walsall's impressive 3-1 triumph over Colchester.

The Saddlers bounced back from the shock of going behind to grab their first win in five matches and move out of the League One relegation zone thanks largely to an inspirational performance from Argentinian midfielder Ledesma, who recently rejoined the club.
Anthony Wordsworth put the U's ahead after 11 minutes with a superb left-footed shot but Ledesma took over, equalising with a superb 25-yard free-kick before Mat Sadler put the hosts in front a minute from half-time. The Saddlers made sure of the points when Ledesma set up substitute George Bowerman to head the third after 74 minutes.
"We all know what he can do and he's a fantastic talent," said Smith. "I think he'll be here next season, which is one of the reasons we brought him back. "But this wasn't about individuals, it was a team performance. We knew it was important to win because it was our game in hand and now we are looking forward to going to Rochdale on Saturday.
"The players we have are hard to beat. No team has really turned us over this season."

Stevenage Borough Vs Bournemouth football match preview

Stevenage's injury problems continue to mount. Don Cowan faces around six months out after undergoing ankle surgery on Friday while fellow striker Chris Beardsley will be absent for four to six weeks with a torn hamstring. Midfielder John Mousinho is still working his way back to full fitness after missing the last four months with a broken bone in his foot.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth are sweating over the fitness of striker Matt Tubbs as they prepare for their first match following the dismissal of manager Lee Bradbury. Bradbury left Dean Court on Sunday with the Cherries lying 13th in npower League One, with Paul Groves taking temporary charge, and the caretaker boss may well have to do without his star forward at Boro. Tubbs has missed Bournemouth's last three matches because of a groin strain, and the same injury could keep the striker out of the trip to Broadhall Way.

Fletcher eyes next term

Manchester United's Darren Fletcher is optimistic he will be able to make his comeback from a chronic bowel condition next season.

The midfielder has not played since November 22 due to a condition known as ulcerative colitis, a form of inflammatory bowel disease.

Fletcher, 27, is still to return to training and has instead taken over some of the coaching responsibilities Paul Scholes abandoned when he came out of retirement. There is still no precise date for when Fletcher will step up his recovery programme but he believes he will be ready to make his return ahead of next season.

"I'm still not ready to come back playing or training yet but I'm listening to the medical people and trying to get myself right," Fletcher told BBC Scotland's Sportscene programme. "The challenge and the focus is to be ready for next season."Me and the medical team decided it'd be best if I tried to get myself right and take an extended period out from the game; then come back fully fit and ready to play." - http://www.setanta.com

Paris SG Vs Bordeaux ligue 1 match previe

Bordeaux are having a blank season. The team has been weakened and weakened in the last couple of seasons and the end result is a lower midtable finish. Without motivation and decreased quality in the players, no positive things should be expected from the home side.

PSG did a good battle against Lille for the cup. The defeat is somewhat disappointing, but the chance to get important advantage for the 3rd spot battle is much more important. PSG should once again rely mainly on Erdinc and Nene in attack and this should bring results.

Villarreal vs Real Madrid match preview

In all likelihood, there's not much Villarreal can do to slow down Madrid's world-class attack, save for knocking Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Gonzalo Higuain, Angel Di Maria and Mesut Ozil out with dirty tackles. Then again, the Yellow Submarine wouldn't be any better off playing six-on-11 as they would with a full squad against Jose Mourinho's maestros.

Realistically, the only difference Villarreal's defense can make is that between a narrow defeat and an embarrassing one.  Villarreal wasted little time making a change after Sunday's loss to Levante, sacking manager Jose Francisco Molina after less than a year on the job.

Predicted composition of Players

Villarreal : Lopez, Zapata, Musacchio, Oriol, Mario, Senna, Soriano, Castellani, Ruben, Nilmar, Martinuccio.
Absent : Valero, Cani, Catala, G. Rossi (cedera), Marchena (hukuman).

Real Madrid : Casillas, Ramos, Pepe, Marcelo, Arbeloa, Khedira, Alonso, Ozil, Kaka, Ronaldo, Benzema.
Absent : Albiol, Di Maria, Altintop (cedera).

Messi on brink of record

Argentine needs one goal to equal Rodriguez mark

Lionel Messi needs just one more goal to equal the Barcelona scoring record after Cesar Rodriguez's previous mark was lowered by three.

It was thought Rodriguez scored 235 official goals for the Blaugrana but that number has now been revised to 232 following a study.Barca's Documentation and Studies Centre and La Vanguardianewspaper conducted a joint project to verify the number of goals scored by Rodriguez in the 1950s.

Messi's current tally stands at 231 and he will have the opportunity to overhaul Rodriguez's record when Barcelona welcome Granada to Camp Nou on Tuesday night. The Argentine, who is in his eighth season with the club, has scored an incredible 45 goals in 39 games this term, including the second in Saturday's 2-0 win at Sevilla.

"After studying all of Cesar's matches, it has been confirmed that Messi is only one goal behind," Barca said."It's worth noting that Cesar Rodriguez is the club's all-time top goalscorer in official matches, but the absolute record belongs to Paulino Alcantara, who scored 369 goals in 357 official and friendly matches." - http://www1.skysports.com

Lorient vS Brest football liga match preview

Lorient coach Christian Gourcuff admits "the moment of truth'' is fast approaching for his side as they bid to lift themselves away from the relegation zone. Having not won since November 27, the club have dropped to 15th in Ligue 1, just a point above the bottom three. However, a win in tomorrow's Brittany derby at home to Brest would take them above their 12th-placed opponents. A draw at Toulouse last weekend ended a run of four successive defeats and Gourcuff knows they have to build on that.

After Brest, they face Ajaccio, Evian and Nice - all teams in close proximity - and Gourcuff accepts it is important to take points off each one. Brest have yet to win away from home this season although eight draws, including four in their last five matches on the road, have just kept them out of trouble. Midfielder Lesoimier Benoit and Jonathan Zebina both return from suspension but defender Omar Daf is suspended.
