Argentine needs one goal to equal Rodriguez mark
Lionel Messi needs just one more goal to equal the Barcelona scoring record after Cesar Rodriguez's previous mark was lowered by three.
It was thought Rodriguez scored 235 official goals for the Blaugrana but that number has now been revised to 232 following a study.Barca's Documentation and Studies Centre and La Vanguardianewspaper conducted a joint project to verify the number of goals scored by Rodriguez in the 1950s.
Messi's current tally stands at 231 and he will have the opportunity to overhaul Rodriguez's record when Barcelona welcome Granada to Camp Nou on Tuesday night. The Argentine, who is in his eighth season with the club, has scored an incredible 45 goals in 39 games this term, including the second in Saturday's 2-0 win at Sevilla.
"After studying all of Cesar's matches, it has been confirmed that Messi is only one goal behind," Barca said."It's worth noting that Cesar Rodriguez is the club's all-time top goalscorer in official matches, but the absolute record belongs to Paulino Alcantara, who scored 369 goals in 357 official and friendly matches." - http://www1.skysports.com
