Varney - Pompey can survive

Fratton Park midfielder has 'gut feeling' club will be saved

Portsmouth midfielder Luke Varney remains confident that the Fratton Park club can be saved from financial oblivion.

Pompey were plunged into administration for the second time in as many years last month and there are fears that they may not be able to complete the season, due to their dire situation. The prospect of salvation has emerged in the shape of former owner Balu Chainrai, who has told Sky Sports News HD that he would be prepared to take control of the club again if it prevents liquidation.

And Varney, who joined the South Coast side in the summer from Derby, has a 'gut feeling' that the 2008 FA Cup winners will live to fight another day. "It's a difficult situation. I just hope someone comes in and completely wipes the slate clean. This club deserves it," he said. -
