Robins agree deal for Rooney
Gillingham have agreed terms with League Two rivals Swindon over the sale of winger Luke Rooney on Monday afternoon.
Rooney is now on his way to Wiltshire to hold talks with the Robins after the Gills accepted an undisclosed bid.
The 21-year-old Academy graduate, out of contract at Priestfield at the end of the season, turned down the offer of a new deal in November, with manager Andy Hessenthaler subsequently leaving him out of first-team affairs.
The Kent club reopened talks with Rooney in December, shortly after Swindon boss Paolo Di Canio first expressed his interest, with Hessenthaler hopeful a new deal could be agreed. But that has not proved the case.
Gillingham were angered 10 days ago by Swindon interim chairman Jeremy Wray's decision to make discussions regarding the potential transfer public.
Rooney, who would have commanded a compensation fee in the summer in any case as he is under 24 years of age, has made a total of three substitute appearances for Gillingham since first being axed in mid-November. - http://www1.skysports.com/
