Manchester United is seeking to improve their
squad this season in playign
against tough oponnent league sides Manchester City, Chelsea and
Arsenal. The arrival of Angelo Henriquez to the club shows the club’s
commitment to impose a stronger showing in the Premier League.
The ex-Universidad de Chile striker signed an
undisclosed-fee agreement with United. He will stay at Old Trafford for four
years and will serve as a future reinforcement to the likes of Danny Welbeck,
Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie.
Sir Alex Ferguson, United manager, said that
Henriquez’ ability to read games well equalled with his rapid pace in the pitch
highly suits the playing style of the club. He is positive that the club –
known for its potential to form talented young players into greater players,
will bring out the best in the Chilean striker while he is still at a young
age.
Henriquez has long been a target of United.
Ferguson noted that the club first met the striker four years ago – when the
player was 14 years old. The club then monitored the player during his stint
with the Chile Under-20 team and noted his excellent play.
Stoke City acquired the services of
ex-Manchester United striker Michael Owen. Signing for a one-year offer, the
Premier League board officially sanctioned his newfound affiliation with the
Potters.
As the seventh summer signing of Stoke, Owen
remarked his excitement to join manager Tony Pulis. He praised the manager for
forming an excellent squad in which he thinks he could fit in. Liverpool,
Everton and Sunderland subsequently refuted reports that they were going after
the striker.
Owen has played for the England international
team, but he has not played for them since 2008. He has a record of 89
international caps with 40 goals. United signed him for a three-year deal in
2009, but only recorded 52 matches and 17 goals with the Red Devils following
injury problems.
