FC Schalke 04 Vs Hannover 96 football liga match preview

Schalke will take comfort in the knowledge that Champions League football is all but confirmed for next season.  Despite losing out on a Europa League final – a quest most fans would happily admit was nothing more than an extra to any  pre-season expectations – Hubb Steven’s men have helped themselves to 3rd place with four games now between themselves and their last defeat in the Bundesliga.

Hannover will themselves take comfort from their position in the league, but perhaps more importantly acknowledge that the job isn’t done yet. Despite leading the rest of the pack for one of the three available Europa League spots, Die Roten could well be in contention for the 4th Champions League spot after defeating lacklustre Gladbach 2-1, last weekend.

Hannover 96 Vs Atletico Madrid football liga match preview

The first leg between the sides at the Vicente Calderon was the inaugural meeting between Atletico Madrid and Hannover. The 96ers have yet to lose a home game in a UEFA competition, recording five wins and two draws over the course of their two continental campaigns. Hannover's last European home game ended in a 4-0 win against Standard Liege in the round-of-16.

Atletico Madrid has lost just one of its last eight European away matches, picking up five wins and two draws. Los Colchoneros' record in 31 games against German sides reads 14 victories, 6 draws, 11 defeats. Adrian Lopez and Falcao are the only players to have featured in all 11 of Atleti's matches since the start of the group stage.

Hunt off to see specialist

Stephen Hunt is to visit a specialist for the second time in two weeks to try to get to the bottom of a troublesome groin injury.

The Republic of Ireland international has been struggling with the injury for some time and he appeared to aggravate it during training on Monday, which forced him to miss Tuesday's session.
Wolves manager Terry Connor has confirmed the midfielder will return to the specialist in the hope of finding a reason for his ongoing problem and he is hoping he will not require an operation with Jamie O'Hara (hamstring) and defender Jody Craddock (groin) both ruled out for the season.
"Stephen pulled out of training (on Tuesday) and he's seeing a specialist. It's the ongoing stuff with his groin," Connor explained. "He felt it in training on Monday and, although he trained on Tuesday, the general consensus was that he should get it looked at. "We feel the best thing is for the doctors to take another look and see if they can get to the root of the problem. "I don't know if he will need surgery or not but it's clear something is still bothering him. Rather than keeping going, the best thing is to seek another medical opinion."

Barnet Vs Swindon Town

Barnet are hopeful three defenders will return for Tuesday's npower League Two match at home to league leaders Swindon. Clovis Kamdjo, Darren Dennehy and Paul Downing all missed the 1-0 home defeat to Torquay. Kamdjo has featured regularly in Barnet's backline and played in over 40 games this season. Downing, on loan from West Brom, was taken off with a neck injury at Macclesfield in March.

Swindon will continue to be without captain Paul Caddis. The full-back has been struggling with an ankle injury of late and has not featured for the Robins since the 4-0 victory over Dagenham on March 4, and he will miss out once again for the clash with the Bees. Joe Devera is likely to fill in on the right of defence once more, with Aden Flint partnering Alan McCormack at centre-back.

Connor: Passion fuelled bust-up

Wolves boss Terry Connor has labelled the fall out between skipper Roger Johnson and keeper Wayne Hennessey as "passion".

It looked as though the two were going to come to blows when they squared up to each other during the home defeat to Bolton at the weekend, a row which the manager admitted spilled over into the break. Connor said the bust up was down to the fact that both players have a passion for the club.
"It was two players committed to getting the right result showing passion and determination and the heat of that passion during the game," he said. "It showed they were demanding of each other and of the team. But I don't like to see a disagreement shown openly. "I spoke to them at half-time and they said their piece and shook hands and went out in the second-half determined to play with exactly the same passion as in the first half. "I don't know precisely what it was about or what tactical point they were trying to resolve. It might have spilt over but it was all dealt with at half-time and they are both fine now."

Petrov will not retire - agent

The agent of Aston Villa captain Stiliyan Petrov has dismissed reports he will retire after being diagnosed with acute leukaemia.

The 32-year-old Villa skipper will be missing from the game for a while as he battles against the cancer which it was confirmed he is suffering from by an Aston Villa statement on Friday.
The Bulgarian international underwent tests due to a fever which he began feeling ill from during last weekend's 3-0 defeat at Arsenal.  Petrov was present at Villa Park on Saturday as fans of both Villa and Chelsea paid tribute to him as they sustained a minute's applause in the 19th minute of the side's 4-2 defeat to commemorate his shirt number. However claims that Petrov will now walk away from football to focus on beating the illness have been rubbished by his agent Stephen Hughes.
"It is not true that Stiliyan has said he is retiring from football," Hughes told Sky Sports. "What he did say was that he was fighting for his life and that he will fight to recover."
